The Oil Lamp is a historical novel and the first book, part of a popular Bulgarian trilogy. The novel consists from four main chapters.
The action is situated in Prespa and shows a typical family from the Bulgarian Revival. One of the main characters is Lazar, who lead the fight for establishing an independent Bulgarian church. He is sophisticated and split between love and duty. He should choose between two women – his friends` sister, who is dying or his true love – the daughter of the richest man in the town
