...It was that profound transformation, in which Bulgaria played an exceptionally active role, which constituted the ‘heroic age’ of its new foreign policy. It will never happen again, just like we can only witness once the dissolution of the COMECON, the disbanding of the Warsaw Pact, the disintegration of the USSR, the falling apart of Tito’s Yugoslavia (an event which spawned five new states on the Balkans) or the unification of Germany. Indeed, such gigantic transformations do not happen every day. A massive accumulation of historic events of that magnitude can only take place once in a century. And we had the rare opportunity to be more than witnesses, indeed, to become active participants in these events. That time of great changes was also a time of great discoveries and bold actions in the country’s foreign policy... |
